I started dancing as a kid, and was lucky enough to attend workshops almost right away (with my parents, also dancers).
What I have always enjoyed about the workshop setting is seeing familiar dances, figures and steps from a new perspective,
plus the high energy level that comes from getting together with a large group. I love being part of a community that does such
good job of sharing the pleasure of dancing across ages and skill levels.
I live in Austin, Texas, where I teach a weekly class for kids ages 5-12. In my teaching, I emphasize personal improvement and teamwork,
though the kids will tell you we have plenty of fun as well! Because of my background in educational research, I’m always tinkering
with my teaching to make dance class as rewarding and productive as possible. At the same time, my philosophy is to observe
closely what dancers are actually doing, and to be responsive to their dancing in the moment. We’re not robots – each and every time
we get together to dance is a new opportunity for joy and learning.
